Just recently there was a hippo attack in St. Lucia within the IWPWHS (iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site) and his story will help us to get the ball rolling with public participation in the affairs of the management of the ISIMANGALISO WETLAND PARK WORLD HERITAGE SITE
read this post for Vincent the one eared hippos story
This story needs to be followed closely as Vincent is a well known St. Lucia resident who is well liked, even by the poor fella in hospital and his family. they want Vincent to be looked after and are concerned about his health.
Other links will follow in future posts here and on my FB pages
The IWPA (iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority) and KZN wild life staff are now in control of poor Vincent's well being since he has been darted and relocated to a temporary holding area within the park
The management of wild life within the iSimangaliso wetland park is a major part of the parks management strategies and we need to become involved in the PPP (Public Participation Process / procedure) around the decisions of fencing and the impacts that these will have on the villages of St. Lucia and Khula Village which are both human settlements within the boundaries of the IWP (iSimangaliso Wetland Park)
The management of the Lake St. Lucia water flow issues are of a major concern to many, including the many hippos in the lake as well as the fish that should be breeding there, which are missing in action due to the IWPA mismanagement of the lake St. Lucia estuary system.
